Closed CD Recording Unit Repair - Record Level Failure - possible Laser problem.

I need attention to why the recording function on my Hi-fi unit is not working. It appears that the problem is the Record Level as it will not reset between 0 and Over the Max. Everything is wired up and connected correctly and the system is working perfectly, but it will not record. Many thanks, Mike parsons
