I am the freeholder of 95 bishops rd fulham london sw67ax i own the freehold of the house which is on 3 floors. the house was built about 130 years ago it was turned into 3 flats of 2 bedrooms each, i live on the top floor flat. The other 2 flats have been sold off on very long leases about 30 years ago and are owner occupied . . I have been insured with RSA for over 40 years but now they tell me i am wrongly insured and i should be insured as consumer not as commercial customer. The RSA insurance runs out on the 14 November, is it possible to give me a quote for house building insurance an a quote for my contents. yours Francis Ellul

  • Alfa Insurance Facilities, posted on Monday 28 September 2020 Hi Francis, this is a very interesting statement as property owners policies are generally deemed as commercial products and we have a special scheme with RSA ourselves if helps. Without the full facts i cannot confirm but the norm would be for the freeholder to insure the entire building and charge out the insurance costs to the lessees proportionately which is in fact a commercial insurance product (property Owners Insurance) . I can only imagine RSA are advising you to take out a consumer product if you are only required to insure your flat and the contents within as an owner occupied property. We at alfa insurance can help with either requirement for you either by calling 02089237558 or emailing at [email protected] with the attached information as well as the required buildings sums insured you require and any claims history you have.
