Closed Saniflo repair

Have a saniflo on ground floor but we have a real nasty smell which comes up through the floor but it doesn't happen everytime its flushed. Its not blocked but I have been told by previous owner that its always been the same. I've been told that it might need a new macerator but I have no clue about saniflo systems. I want new floors but don't want to do it while saniflo isn't doing what it should.
