My Mam has Dementia. She still is independent, likes to keep busy doing small household tasks, needs to spend time outside in a nice garden. She is mobile and enjoys going out for a walk,however would need to be accompanied as could get lost. She can be challenging at times, however can be managed by the right approach. Likes to see her family and go out for coffee, lunch, walks etc. Currently living out of area in a Care Home which is disabling her and needs to be close to my sister and I who live in Gosforth, as we have a very close relationship meaning we could see her more regularly. My Dad is in a Nursing Home in Guisborough and also has Dementia, however due to various issues which I can discuss it is felt, by the whole family, ie 2 other siblings who have Power Of Attorney, Mam's needs would be met far better if she was in Tyneside. She is mobile. May need prompting to shower,support to wash her hair, have a change of clothes,routine,unable to self medicate,need support to use the telephone and can get easily confused. She can be unsteady on her feet at times and has very little hearing. Mam can see to her own toilet requirements.
