JE, Jersey, Jersey
My father’s Will stated that my mother in law was to have life time enjoyment of his house in Jersey C/I . I am the sole reversionary owner. My mother in law died in New Zealand about 18 months ago, her daughter has just informed me. The house has a sitting tenant, as the house was divided into two flats, one flat has always paid monthly rent to my mother in law for 15 years +. Question: When can I obtain my inheritance, move into the unoccupied flat that needs lots of refurbishment? She didn’t tell me, my half sister, that the life time had finished therefore, she has kept the property on for her own purpose ie denying me the rental value of my property. Can I put in a claim for rental due? Also, the property whilst my step mother had Life time interest, was not kept in good order and, due to my half sister not informing me of my step mothers death, has denied me of my enjoyment of my property can I claim loss of rental income? Also, I have not been told of my step mother’s date of death, which may have been 18 months+ ago as I live in England, she lived in New Zealand. I’m Jersey born. A death certificate would need finding. I have my father’s Will.
  • 5 years ago Sorry, she was my step mother.... not mother in law.
