We are the custodians of two large war memorial brass plaques which can be viewed at http://oldcestrefeldians.org.uk/images/WW1%20Roll%20of%20Honour.jpg and http://oldcestrefeldians.org.uk/images/WW2%20Roll%20of%20Honour.jpg respectively. They are situated at Chesterfield College West Studios, Sheffield Road, Chesterfield S41 7LL, the site of the former Chesterfield Grammar School. They are both in need of a good clean and lacquering. The WW1 plaque is 1375mm wide x 1105mm high and 5mm thick. The WWII plaque is 1385 x 1120 x 2. Brass area only - excluding the wooden frame.. Just to give you a bit more background, the WWII plaque was cleaned to a mirror-finish about four years ago, but, unfortunately, not lacquered at the time. As a result, it has now just become a bit dull, but should only need a polish before lacquering. However, the WWI.plaque, (made by Wm. Morris & Co. Westminster), will need more work as the surface is very dark at present. A local metal treatment firm offered to dip it for us a couple of years ago free of charge, but it was not very successful. They have always been indoors so the surface is otherwise undamaged. The WW1 plaque is in one piece and very heavy, while the WW2 plaque is in a more manageable three sections. If possible, we would like the job done on site, but could deliver to your works if necessary. Is this something you could undertake and, if so, could you give us a ball-park idea of the cost?
