My shower is dripping. I've had somebody look at it before, and they said it was most likely a worn-out rubber gasket / washer inside the mechanism that controls temperature / water flow, if I've understood them correctly. That mechanism is built into the wall, so I was told that any repair would require tearing open the tiles and the wall. My question is whether it cannot be repaired without tearing open the wall. Or, in the alternative, whether another solution cannot be found. The shower hose comes directly out of the wall, too - I've been thinking it might be possible just to build in a stop at that point, some sort of valve that could just be added between the hose and where it is attached? Please let me know - thanks a lot in advance. Alex

Edwards Plumbing Services, posted on Wednesday 12 December 2018 Hi, photo of the valve would be beneficial, send one and lets see what we are up against.DABienert, posted on Wednesday 12 December 2018 Hi - thanks for the comment. I've uploaded three pictures. I'm in SW2. - North London Plumber, posted on Wednesday 12 December 2018 Hi, Alex as others have asked, we need to see photo close up of the valve to get a better idea, a few photos at different angles would be ideal. Once I have these I will be able to asses the options available and have a closer idea of costings. Depending where you are I could take a look and give an estimate or quote on how much it will cost to repair or other options. Estimate and Quote are free of charge and there is no obligation to take either one.DABienert

- North London Plumber, posted on Wednesday 12 December 2018 Hi Alex, thank you for your prompt reply, the photos are great, is it possible to take a clear photo of the name at the bottom of the shower valve? I did notice the logo on the on off part of the valve is missing as well which can also give us a clue who made the shower valve. One other question, do you know roughly when the shower valve was installed?DABienert
, posted on Sunday 16 December 2018 Hi - I've posted a close-up of the brand name (Aquariss). I've contacted the company that is now called Aquariss, but apparently they are not the manufacturers (who are no longer trading). The valve would have been installed more than eight years ago. It sounds a bit like I'd need a new shower at this stage? -
Edwards Plumbing Services, posted on Thursday 13 December 2018 Hi, you need a replacement cartridge fitted to the unit, this is what controls the water flow. shut off and temperature. Normally they can be fitted by simply dismantling the valve from the front, assuming the tiler has left sufficient room behind the face plate to remove the fixing screws. If not, then it will have to be dug out from the tiles causing tile damage. You would be better off contacting the manufacturer of the valve direct and arranging for one of their service team to fit the replacement cartridge as these need to be re calibrated and it is not a case of one cartridge fits all they are tailor made for each valve so the model number must be found.DABienert, posted on Sunday 16 December 2018 Thank you, that is really helpful. I did try, but it turns out the manufacturers (Aquariss) are no longer trading (they're not the company of the same name that sells bathroom equipment now). The valve was installed more than eight years ago. It sounds a bit like I'd need a new shower installed at this stage? - Southwark Handyman Services, posted on Saturday 15 December 2018 Hi Alex, it looks like you’ve had enough responses but if you get stuck, please get in touch.
