Claim compensation from council for property damage from leak from next door. I own my house whereas next door is a council property. My house is an ex council house. Neighbours had a leak from a water pipe which ruined their kitchen and they had to have their floor dug up due to the fact that the water had soaked so far down. Their contractors said it has probably been leaking for over a year (before I moved in) I have had some issues with damp which I now believe to be from this as we share a wall and foundations.(I will be getting an independent contractor to confirm this). However, because of where the leak is I will need to rip up my kitchen floor and remove cupboards which I financially cannot do, especially when I feel the council are liable to pay for the damage. I am also concerned about potential health risks from mould as my partner is asthmatic and I have a young child.
