My Wife suffered a severe stroke last November and is not likely to survive for much longer. I am in the first instance the sole beneficiary of her Will. When we set up our (mirror) Wills, we did not envisage that there would be any difficulty, but we have been advised otherwise more recently to apply for Powers of Attorney for Health and Wealth. The Will is straightforward: there is a fairly large sum of money invested with a large, reliable British financial company, and some smaller amounts with banks or building societies. However you should be warned that to draft and get a LPA registered may take up to 6 months as it will have to be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian and they have severe backlogs. However, whilst they do not have a "fast track" system I can submit an application and request expedition under certain circumstances. Also I would need to be sure that your wife has the mental capacity to give instructions for the powers of attorney. It sounds like you need it to deal with financial matters too so you would be advised to create an LPA for financial affairs as well.
