Hi. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) that needs its outer body and hinges replacing and a new battery. Could you tell me the cost and lead time for this please. Many thanks.

- Fix My Tech, posted on Tuesday 13 February 2024 Hi Alex, The MacBook Pro 15" Mid-2015 only supports up to macOS Monterey, (presuming it will continue the normal trend) this will go out of support for security updates in Sept/Oct 2024. To change the hinges would require a complete display assembly replacement, with the base case needing replacing, and battery, it would be cheaper to get a 2nd hand MacBook and swap the system PCB and battery (if required). However, even then it would seem unwise to spend so much money on a laptop with a 8 month usable life. I would put the money towards a newer model with a longer usable life (whether that is newer 2nd hand model or a new MacBook). Kind regards, AndyAlex D
, posted on Tuesday 13 February 2024 Thanks very much Andy, I appreciate your adviceAlex D, posted on Wednesday 14 February 2024 Hi again Andy. Quick question... if I did get a second-hand MacBook, would you be able to install the hard drive from my old laptop so that I can keep all the files and applications? And if so, what would this cost?
Fix My Tech, posted on Wednesday 14 February 2024 Depends on the model, if you got the same model then yes, would charge £30. If it is a newer model with the same type of SSD then it will probably work, however, I would recommend using Time Machine to transfer the files/apps from one to the other (although you might need to reactive licenses linked to the apps), if the SSD is a different type then Time Machine would be the best option to transfer apps and data. I would recommed doing an internet recovery on any purchased MacBook to ensure it is a clean install and then do a Time Machine recovery, cost would be £95 - Techfix, posted on Tuesday 13 February 2024 Hi Alex Could you provide the model number and emc.
