Hi, I have what I'm pretty sure is antique parasol, and it needs restored so this is what my inquiry is about. While the mechanism still works well the fabric covering is beginning to break at the seams and even as a few tears though not any major ones. There are a few stains and the tassle (I still have it) has fallen off. I was going to try and patch the fabric myself and I bought some antique machine made and bobbin lace to see if I could cover the new fabric so that it doesn't lose it's look. I do love the look of it, but I would like it to be practical and I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that the original fabric at may not be salvageable and even if it is, it's outside of my capabilities.
I'm not sure when the parasol dates, though I think it's possibly early 20th century, if not that late Victorian. I tried to read up on it myself and go through fashion plates, but it's difficult to tell with parasols. If you can help or can't help but have anywhere you could point me for help it would be much appreciated.
Kind regards
Bethan.
- 2 years ago I do have pictures but for some reason they won't upload despite being an ok size. So I can send them by other means if you need to see them.
