I have what I believe is an oil on canvas painting that is approximately 100 years old. It is a portrait of a standing cavalier and is signed by P G Collins. It is very dirty - probably mostly dust and nicotine/tar staining for about 50 years of its life, the rest of the time spent in attics. Otherwise it is in not-to-bad order, just a few small scratches. The frame doesn't appear to be an expensive one but has fallen apart and would be best replaced. The framed picture measures @34 inches (86.5 cms) tall by @22 inches (56 cms) wide. The picture holds fond memories for my elderly father and he has always thought it might be worth good money as it is painted by a known artist who died on HMS Hood when it was torpedoed by the Germans in one of the World Wars. I have researched on line and can't find anything that confirms this connection however. He knew the family of the artist when he was a boy, so who knows? I would like to know the likely cost of having the painting cleaned, repaired and reframed please.
