Closed Aircon & heating not working

2008 Nissan Micra. Air-con & heating stopped working. Indicator light for air-con comes on but nothing happens. Was working satisfactorily until a few days ago. Before it ceased it was making a noise ? like a fan & before this I think it may have given off a mild odour. Please can you give me an indication of repair cost.
