I live in a first floor leasehold flat within a Grade I Listed Building. The existing suspended timber floor construction comprises; T&G timber boarding on 50mmx50mm timber battens on fibreglass quilt on 20mm plywood deck on timber joists with a directly applied plasterboard and skim ceiling. The terms of my lease require me to maintain an applied floor finish of close carpet on under felt throughout the flat to mitigate impact noise nuisance into the flat below. I have established, by reference to the "Guide for Noise Control from Laminate & Wooden Flooring" produced by Napier University that the impact noise insulation attributable to carpet with under felt is DLw 21dB. I wish to refurbish my bathroom and replace the existing carpeted floor with the following applied floor. 3mm Polyurethane foam sheet (impact attenuation) DLw 12dB 8mm Marmox soundboard (impact attenuation) DLw 20dB 4mm Vinyl tiles (impact attenuation) DLw 6dB Combined impact noise attenuation DLw 38dB. Are you able to provide an independent specialists confirmation that my proposed replacement floor as described will have an impact noise insulation at least equal to or greater than carpet with under felt and that the acoustic separation between my flat and those of my neighbours will not be diminished by my proposed changes. Please confirm if you are able to provide this service and your required fee. Many thanks Ian GrahamRead more
