Description Oadby Wyggestonians Rugby Club
Oadby Wyggestonian RFC was formed in 1971 as an amalgamation of two long established local clubs, Old Wyggestonian RFC and Oadby RFC.
Old Wyggestonian RFC was founded in 1921 as a club for former pupils of Wyggeston School, their home from 1935 being the Oadby Road ground that is now Oval Park, which is still owned to this day by the Old Wyggestonian Association.
Oadby RFC, having formed in 1888, was (and still is) one of the oldest rugby clubs in Leicestershire, and played for many years at the playing fields on Uplands Road in Oadby.
In 1992, Leicester Tigers took out a long term lease from the Old Wyggestonian Association, enabling them to share the ground with Oadby Wyggs and use it as their principal training ground, a partnership that has resulted in the facilities we enjoy today.
