Here at Linton on Ouse Primary School we recognise the importance of helping our pupils to develop their full potential and we do our utmost to make that a reality. We also recognise that this is more likely to happen when school and home work together as a partnership for the good of the children. We try to develop the whole child and work to enable them to become balanced individuals with a sense of responsibility towards others. Our school is an integral part of the village community. We work with our neighbours and all contribute to the feeling of belonging and citizenship. All children are regarded as equals in our school and we encourage them in all their achievements. As our children leave primary education our aim is that he/she is equipped with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and confidence to move on to the next stage of education, and for life.

Park Grove School is situated north of York, just outside the city walls in an area called ‘The Groves’ after Grove House a large house and estate that used to occupy the area. Park Grove Council School was designed by the celebrated local architect Walter Brierley and opened in August 1895. A newspaper report of the time described the school as having facilities to ‘rival that of Eton or Harrow’! The school is the oldest of five similar schools in York by Walter Brierley, Park Grove, Fishergate, Scarcroft, Poppleton Road and Haxby Road. There was accommodation for 1, 393 children in two departments, ‘mixed and infants'. In 1897 the average attendance was 1, 115, which must have meant class sizes of over 55! By 1956 the senior school was for boys only and 250 were enrolled; there were 210 enrolled in the junior and 100 in the infants' schools. We now have nine classes and around 250 children aged between 5 – 11.

Our core curriculum is enriched in many ways. We hold Artsmark Gold. We have good links with the world of theatre and our children enjoy performing for a range of audiences. We host regular Live Arts events and pupils can learn musical instruments through the LA's peri-music service and Wider Opportunities programme. An annual healthy school or themed week provides further enrichment. Many children benefit from links with local sports organisations such as swimming, hockey and rugby clubs. The local Jorvik School Sports Partnership provides a range of out-of-hours sporting opportunities such as trampolining and dance. Teachers organise regular visits to places of interest and a residential visit takes place each summer for Y6 pupils. Out-of-school learning opportunities include choir, orchestra, chess, Judo, magic maths, football & netball training. The school also benefits from links with a local Christian organisation, the YoYo Trust.
