As a company Old Manor Inns Group is always looking for up and coming talented chefs with a flair for cooking and outgoing bar and waiting staff to join our group of pub restaurants. Olde Smokey House Inn - The Smokey as a building, as far as we know, dates back to around the 17th century. The original building is the deep end of the bar area. Photographs, which are displayed in our restaurant, clearly show that the Smokey was originally two thatched cottages. We have found records dating back as far as the late 18th century. These records indicate that the building was even then used as a pub. Due to the location and view of the bay, the tall chimneys were used as a smoke signal to warn smugglers away from the ports if customs officials were lurking. Hence the name, Ye Olde Smokey House. There are some pictures and records that indicate that the original name of the pub was either The Ship Inn or The Ship Inn Olde Smokey House.
