The Malt Shovel at Barston is a delightful country pub and restaurant with a difference. We have a welcoming bar with an easy atmosphere for eating and drinking. Log fires, long Sunday lunches and newspapers in the winter. A beautiful garden in summer for al fresco eating at lunchtimes. Fine Cask conditioned ales, imported beer and fine wines. For more formal dining we have a separate award winning restaurant in a stylishly converted barn. Our head chef Max Murphy sources fresh local produce using high quality butchers and developes fresh fish specials daily. Our bottled milk for drinking and for our teas and coffees is all organic. All our eggs are free range, including all the egg we use in our marinades and sauces. We source quality ingredients from over 17, 000 British and Irish farmers. In 2009 this included all our beef, free range eggs, pork, organic milk and much of our salad, apples and carrots when in season. We have been providing nutritional information about our food since 1984. In 2003, we became the first company in our sector to embark on a project of extensive recipe reformulation focusing primarily on salt reduction. Over the past six years, through technological innovations and the reformulation of many of our core menu items, we have dramatically reduced salt content across our menu.
