Whitcliffe Mount is a Specialist Business and Enterprise College and provides a broad, balanced and wide-ranging curriculum along with extensive extra-curricular activities. In its recent history as a 13-18 comprehensive school the school has been through three distinct phases in its development. The school's profile in the local community improved markedly during this period, as did standards of attainment at all key stages. Former Head Prefect at Dover Grammar School for Boys – Jack Williams – recently organised a visit for Year 10 and Year 12 students from the five Dover Secondary schools to Cambridge. The aim of the visit was to introduce students to student life and to encourage the young people to aspire to studying at University when they leave school. Two separate programmes were run, with Year 12 students visiting Pembroke College and Year 10 students visiting St Catharine’s College, where Jack Williams is now an undergraduate. Despite the cold conditions, the group left snowy Dover and travelled by coach to Cambridge.

We offer several extra curricular school activities such as Football, Chess, Netball, Drama and Dance and the School Choir all of which are very popular with the children. Each year the whole school take part in a Christmas production. During the course of the school year, trips are arranged to such places as Braeside and the local theatre to enhance the classroom curriculum. Since its creation in 1927 Beatrix Potter School has continued to provide high standards of education in the community. The schools’ name was derived from the author’s visits to her former Governess who lived by our local common in Baskerville Road and to whom she wrote, using her characters to illustrate her letters. Beatrix Potter also drew inspiration from the varied wildlife she saw on her visits to Wandsworth Common. The school was founded in 1927 although there was on the site a school before this, this tin (it was located in a corrugated hut) school is recorded (1901), we have recently obtained a picture from a former pupil of 1916 of this tin school. We were re-modelled in 1933 and 1993, its only interruption to its role in providing education for the local community was in 1939 when the school was evacuated to Shamley Green, Guildford until 1943 as a result of the 1939-1945 war.
What activities are available to pupils? In an aim to reach government targets to raise the physical activity of children, and in response to the Excellence and Enjoyment Strategy, a range of opportunities has been provided. The curriculum is enriched with educational visits, visiting theatre companies, artists in residence and creative and sporting initiatives as detailed: Huff and Puff, M and M Theatre Productions, Creative writing workshops, Expo Chef and Skipping workshop. A wide range of after school clubs is available throughout the year in sport, art, languages and drama. The school has a both a girls' and boys' football club who play in inter school leagues.
In addition to a rich, broad and balanced curriculum, pupils have also been able to enjoy a range of extra curricular activities including: cross country, cookery, table tennis, book group and dancing . The children also have the opportunity to play a range of musical instruments. A range of art, creative and construction activities take place at our Out of School Club which has very close links with and works well with the school.
