FAITH Christian Group was started in 1990 as a response to a need which its founder, Jim McConnell, saw on the streets of Reading. Initially FAITH consisted of Jim walking around the streets of Reading with some blankets and a flask of soup, serving those whom he met, and offering them friendship. In the beginning, the FAITH office was based in the front room of his house and both we and Reading owe him a debt of gratitude for pioneering this work.

Blindcare, established in 1988, is an equal partnership of ten charities founded for the purpose of promoting payroll giving. This enables tax-free charitable donations to be made through a donor's payroll. Facilities to do this are available to more than half of all UK employees. Blindcare works to raise awareness of the benefits of payroll giving within all sectors of the economy and to highlight the work of our partner charities. Blindcare's partner charities provide education and training for visually impaired adults and children to help them make their way in the world; mobility support to help the blind lead active lives; conduct research into blindness and provide vital treatment, including the restoration of sight, in developing countries.
