We have been aiming to raise standards in English and Mathematics so that all pupils make very good progress. Those who do not are then identified and helped. Central to this is the need to continually assess where each pupil is in their learning and to communicate next steps clearly. We have been developing a whole-school method of recording progress on a computer programme. We have reviewed and revised our system for school self-review so that leaders can ascertain areas of strength and areas for development as clearly and efficiently as possible. We have been raising standards in Information and Communication Technology and Science by transferring the practices developed in work on English and Mathematics. Our aim is for all pupils to make good progress in ICT and Science.

During the first year of our enlargement the Reading Children's Fund ran a series of After School clubs which included football, art, book reviewers and jewellery making. At lunchtimes in the summer term we employed play leaders, from Reading Borough Council, to organise sporting activities on our field when playground space was limited. Year 6 children went on a residential trip to Bude in September. On the trip they had experience of surfing, abseiling, canoeing, walking, problem solving and learning to work as a team. Throughout all year groups children are taken on trips which link to their classroom work and make learning more effective.
We provide an extensive range of sporting, cultural and academic activities. Our spacious school grounds provide many opportunities for outdoor learning including working in the copse to identify native trees and wildlife. Trips and residential visits are used to support the curriculum and provide our pupils with first-hand experience. Theatre groups, sports stars and other appropriate visitors also provide a stimulus for learning. Children learn to co-operate and work as a team through our House system. We run a full range of Extended Schools activities including: Yoga Golf Mandarin Chinese Gymnastics Drumming Judo Dance Football (Girls & Boys) Drama Spanish Bug Club Archery Gardening Lego Radio controlled cars Our pupils came second in a Mathematics Challenge against other Caversham schools. Our 24-place After School Club continues to be very successful and offers a high quality childcare provision until 6pm.

There are a wide range of extra curricular activities available to pupils both during and after the school day. These include school trips; a residential week away for Yr 5 and Yr 6 pupils; sporting clubs such as football, netball, badminton, short tennis and keep fit; a lunchtime art club where children enjoy working in our art studio using a range of different media and a gardening club where children have been planting beautiful pots and bedding plants as well as being involved in designing a wild flower border for the school field. The Gardening Club received a Reading in Bloom award in 2007. Musically we have a very active steel band where our children have the opportunity to work alongside pupils from other schools and not to forget of course our fantastic choir who meet each week to sing their hearts out! We also have an after school club which provides child care from 3.15 to 5.30pm each day.
