He began performing murder mysteries with Frome Valley Players in 1995 where he played many roles, including murderer, victim and detective. This group specialised in providing scripted scenarios which took several months of rehearsal to prepare, hence when groups requested services at short notice they were often unable to oblige. When a Yeovil singles group requested a murder mystery event in 2002 FVP had no scenarios ready, so Bryan fulfilled their request with an improvised scenario using group volunteers, and Murder to Measure was born.
