Osteopaths are skilled at treating muscular and mechanical forms of back pain caused by falls, lifting, sporting activity and gardening to mention a few examples. Osteopaths use palpation, feeling the tissues under their fingers, and by comparing the temperature, tone and response to movement to what they know to be normal, decide how to treat the patient. Diagnosis involves taking a full case history, undertaking a thorough physical examination and if necessary some medical investigation such as blood tests, X-rays etc.
