We believe that it’s absolutely unacceptable that so many people die needlessly – because no one could give them first aid when they needed it. St John Ambulance teaches people first aid - about 800, 000 last year alone – so that they can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. We teach young people in schools and through our activities for young people. We teach people in the workplace and provide first aid products. We teach people in the community. And we teach people who become our volunteers, who offer their skills and time to be the difference right in the heart of their community – at public events, first responders or back up to local ambulance services. As a charity, we’re committed to making sure more people can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. To do that, we need your help.

Walk the Walk came into being 14 years ago when just 13 women Power Walked the New York City Marathon in their bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. What started out as a one-off fundraising event, has blossomed into a thriving multi-million pound charity, raising to date in excess of £65 million for vital breast cancer causes. The charity was founded by Nina Barough who at that time ran her own production company. Nina woke one morning with what seemed like a ‘fun’ idea to Power Walk the New York City Marathon in decorated bras to raise money for a good cause. What makes the beginning of this story so magical is that Nina at that time had no experience of fundraising or taking part in a marathon nor did she know anyone who had been affected by breast cancer.

Wishes 4 Kids has already granted hundreds of wishes for local children. Sadly we do not have a magical cure for the suffering of these youngsters, however, we can bring a short period of respite. The time when a child has a wish granted is a moment that will be treasured by them for the rest of their life. It is also a time which parents will remember - that time when their child forgot the suffering.
