Since its creation in 1927 Beatrix Potter School has continued to provide high standards of education in the community. The schools’ name was derived from the author’s visits to her former Governess who lived by our local common in Baskerville Road and to whom she wrote, using her characters to illustrate her letters. Beatrix Potter also drew inspiration from the varied wildlife she saw on her visits to Wandsworth Common. The school was founded in 1927 although there was on the site a school before this, this tin (it was located in a corrugated hut) school is recorded (1901), we have recently obtained a picture from a former pupil of 1916 of this tin school. We were re-modelled in 1933 and 1993, its only interruption to its role in providing education for the local community was in 1939 when the school was evacuated to Shamley Green, Guildford until 1943 as a result of the 1939-1945 war.

From the late 1840s there was a steady expansion of the Catholic Church in the borough of Enfield. These numbers were subsequently boosted by waves of Catholic immigrants from Italy, Poland and elsewhere who settled in other areas of the borough including New Southgate. The Parish of Our Lady of Lourdes was established in the Diocese of Westminster in 1923. Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School was built in 1972 on the land owned by the Church to provide an education for the children of the parish.

We recognise that we are all created in the image and likeness of God, each a unique person equal in the eyes of a loving and forgiving Father.
