William O'Gorman laid the foundation stone for our new school building on 4th May 2000. The school was then opened and blessed by Bishop Ambrose Griffiths.

The Birches School provides education for primary aged (2-11 Years) pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties, many of whom have additional sensory and physical impairments. As well as some children with autism. There are six places for pupils with Social, Emotional and Behaviour Difficulties. The school, which is maintained by Manchester Education Authority, is a non-denominational day school. The building is situated approximately four miles to the south of the City Centre.
