Emergency care is provided on two areas by Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Accident & Emergency (A&E) at Stafford Hospital and Minor Injury Unit (MIU) at Cannock Chase Hospital. Stafford Hospital services are open for 24 hours a day, seven days a week including bank holidays. They see patients sent by their family doctor (GP), brought to hospital by ambulance or patients attending with serious injuries or illness. Patients are assessed and given a priority on arrival you may not be seen in the order in which you arrived. If your condition is minor or easily treatable you will have to wait for patients with more severe illness to be seen. If you are suffering from a condition that has been causing you small discomfort but you would normally visit your GP or a dentist for treatment, it may be more appropriate for you to do this than visit A&E. If the nurses are not able to treat you they will refer you your local A& E department.

Community Matron": We have a Community Matron who visits patients in their homes. All patients are referred by the Practice. Cryosurgery: In this clinic, procedures such as the removal of skin tags, warts and verrucae are carried out. The clinics are held on the second Tuesday of each month and are by appointment Midwife’s Clinic: Our Midwife, Patricia Sugrim, comes to the surgery every Wednesday and holds a morning and afternoon surgery. Patients will need to be referred by a doctor to the hospital for a scan and a Booking Appointment before attending this clinic.

Surgical Appliances/Orthotic clinics are held at Queen Elizabeth, Woolwich, Queen Mary's, Sidcup, Princess Royal and Beckenham Hospital. Some items attract a prescription charge which is payable before an item can be ordered. Details of prescription charges and possible exemption are sent with the appointment letter (where appropriate). Therapy services are provided both in the inpatient and outpatient setting and in some GP centres in the community. The inpatient services are organised into Multidisciplinary Therapy Teams, supported by multi-professional Therapy Assistant Practitioners and Therapy Technicians.
Fleetwood Hospital is a community unit that serves residents from Wyre and surrounding areas. There is an outpatient department which houses seven consulting suites, one of which has been adapted for Audiology. It also provides diagnostic Radiology services on the site.
The AMU receives acutely ill medical patients from primary care via GP referral and referral from the Emergency Department. The unit is divided into AMU Assessment and AMU Ward. The unit is supported by the Acute GP Service within AMU Assessment and the Rapid Response Team. To develop a department that works continually to improve patient-centred care, focusing on a professional, multidisciplinary approach, supported by respect, best practice, good communication, and a willingness to change the way we work. This is a 23 bed assessment area with a seated area for up to 10 patients. On arrival all patients are assessed by a nurse and doctor with the most seriously ill patients seen first. Initial investigations such as blood tests, X rays and an ECG may be requested and an initial management plan decided.
The Dorking GP practices have a long history of working together and trying to improve services for Dorking patients. In September 2004, Dr Jonathan Richards and Michael Arnaud presented a proposal to the Dorking GPs. The aim was to improve and expand outpatient services provided in the local community hospital. At that meeting we decided to form a provider organisation to deliver this aim. Dorking Healthcare LLP (DHC) is a partnership of every single partner in the six Dorking practices (covering 40, 000 patients). We had analysed the pattern of outpatients and found that less than 30% of appointments for Dorking patients were held at Dorking Hospital. We audited Dorking Outpatients Department and found it had a 30% occupancy rate.

The female genital tract includes the ovaries, Fallopian tubes, uterus (womb), cervix, vagina and vulva. The ovaries produce eggs, one of which is released each month, and then 'collected' by the fallopian tube. The egg is then passed through to the uterus; the organ in which a baby will develop. The inner lining of the uterus (endometrium) thickens in preparation to receive a fertilised egg, however is shed each month as a menstrual period if no egg has been fertilised. The neck of the womb is called the cervix, which lies at the top of the vagina. The vulva are the fleshy folds that surround the entrance to the vagina.
