This new service supports short sentenced male prisoners by offering early engagement, through and beyond the gate and individualised support in the community to address needs and prevent re-offending. This first pilot will see St Giles Trust providing support to 3, 000 prison leavers from HMP Peterborough over a six-year period to help them settle back into the community and reduce re-offending. St Giles Trust will work closely alongside other voluntary sector organisations to provide NVQ training to Connections peer advisors and provide intensive 'through the gate' support to people leaving prison.
We offer a range of services which meet prison leavers on release and help ease the transition to the community. Leaving prison is a very difficult time and the risk of re-offending is high if the right support is not in place. Our caseworkers provide intensive support across a broad range of areas, help clients resettle and ensure that the risk of re-offending is minimised. Our Community Services Team comprise a range of different projects who provide support for prison leavers and those caught up in the criminal justice system.
Changing Paths is a Community Interest Company and Charitable Trust, an initiative that has been set up by the Wates Family through the Wates Giving charity programme. Changing Paths assists offenders and others into sustainable employment within the construction sector and its supply chain. We aim to place offenders and ex-offenders, the usually socially excluded sectors of society, into skilled, sustainable and paid employment. This can only be done by providing correct, constructive and comprehensive training programs, which we aim to deliver with sufficient funding. Changing Paths have sourced the best training packages, along with a daily growing partner base willing to take on our graduates. Access to employment is one of the major factors determining whether an offender will re-offend or not on release.
