We aim to provide a caring environment in which children learn to respect each other and their elders and to enable the personal development of each child to proceed without hindrance. This includes the development of social and artistic skills as well as intellectual ones. We also aim to encourage interest and to help children acquire relevant knowledge. We try to give all children as many opportunities for success as possible, because the child who is successful has something to be proud of, something to set their personal standards by. We encourage our children to care; this is not only in their work and behaviours, but also in dealings with other people. We encourage our children to develop relationships of quality with each other and with adults. Good relationships help our children to feel secure and they need this feeling of security to achieve the greatest success.
As a residential school we provide what we call a 'waking curriculum', the pupils are presented with a full days programme from getting up to going to bed. The morning break and lunch break both provide a series of opt in activities for all the pupils, there is no opt out option. Pupils are fully supervised throughout all the sessions. Residential pupils have two activity sessions each evening, a pre-tea activity which is invariably school based and places little physical demand, post tea activities are usually physical. The range of activities include most major team and outdoor education sports. Cultural and craft opportunities are also available on a frequent basis and daily if there is demand.
We offer several extra curricular school activities such as Football, Chess, Netball, Drama and Dance and the School Choir all of which are very popular with the children. We have a learn-to-swim programme where the children undertake a course of 10 lessons at the Marlborough Leisure Centre with a fully qualified teacher. Each year the whole school take part in a Christmas production. During the course of the school year, trips are arranged to such places as Braeside and the local theatre to enhance the classroom curriculum. Music lessons are available to children through the Swindon Music Cooperative.

Brentwood Ursuline is a Catholic Voluntary Aided comprehensive school for girls aged betwen 11 to 18 which serves families in the Brentwood area. Our school has a very strong and successful Ursuline tradition that dates back to 1900. We try to be open and welcoming, reflecting the importance of the partnership between the school, family and parish in your daughters education. Our aim as a school is to create a Christian environment in which each of our students can grow, developing a love of learning and abilities that will enable them to become confident young women. Each student's needs are recognised, staff are mindful that they will develop at different rates and for this reason there is an emphasis on the individual. However we are a learning community so the growth of the school as a community, commited to learning, is considered to be critical.
At Broadstone First School we want our curriculum to be a rehearsal for life and nurture the skills that are explicit in our core values. We want our curriculum to develop individual talents and unknown potential and to challenge all learners to be better tomorrow than they were today. Broadstone First School was founded by Sir Ivor and Lady Cornelia Guest in 1872 and the first headmaster was Richard Musgrave. The building was used as a chapel of ease on Sundays until the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist was built in 1887.

Introduction to Brooke School from the headteacher, Mr Ferguson.
Brooklands is a Surrey County Council community day special school for children with severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. Children are aged from 2 to 11 years. Choosing a school for your child is always difficult. It is even more so when your child has, or may have, special educational needs. We are aware that this can be an emotional and stressful time for the whole family. We want you to be able to spend as much time as you need when considering Brooklands. Hopefully this Prospectus will give you a picture of us. Do come and visit the school and bring a friend or someone you trust so that you can talk through your impressions afterwards. You are very welcome to come on second or third visits and to bring your child. I am also very happy for you to ring after a visit and ask the questions you meant to ask but forgot, or to talk through what you saw and heard and how that might affect your child.
Over 130 parents and wider family squeezed into the building on what must have been the wettest day of the year so far! This annual occasion is always popular, being a “fly on the wall”, and seeing what learning in a classroom is like these days! Adults squeezed on chairs with their children, taking part in all sorts of activities: measuring, role play and drama, science investigations, story telling and “kung fu punctuation”, as well as sharing in the act of remembrance with the children and staff. So many visitors commented on the children's excellent behaviour, the interaction between children and adults, and at the high level of learning that was going on.

The school is led well by the headteacher, whose passion fosters enthusiasm and commitment among staff and pupils alike. Because pupils are self-motivated, cared for and supported very well, their personal development is outstanding. A good curriculum offers a range of opportunities which broaden pupils' life experiences and contribute significantly to their enjoyment of school. Very good pastoral care ensures a warm and secure environment and supports pupils' highly positive attitudes to learning and excellent behaviour.
I believe it is the highest privilege to be given the opportunity to teach your children; young minds are eager to learn and explore the world around them. I am constantly surprised and delighted by the ideas and insights that your children choose to share with me. Children have just one chance to grow and learn; their time at school is precious. They deserve to enjoy their learning in a positive, safe and caring environment. I will constantly strive to ensure your child maintains and develops the love of learning which all children are born with. I will, through calmness, firmness and by taking time to listen, strive to ensure your child learns to be calm, thoughtful and caring.

They aim to provide a community which will enable all who belong to make the most of their abilities and be happy. We work particularly hard to help our students gain academic knowledge, learn practical skills and develop their power to reason. But we also try to promote learning in many other aspects of life, social, moral, spiritual, aesthetic and physical. We seek to achieve our objectives within a broad and balanced framework that gives a central place to the National Curriculum. We want our students to be keen to learn and to be able to concentrate their minds on a task. We want them to respect accuracy; to be able to handle numbers with confidence and to express themselves effectively in speech and writing. We want them to be confident in their use of modern technology. They should be able to solve problems, look for evidence, consider both sides of a question and think independently. They should be able to work effectively either as an individual or as a member of a group.

The children had discussions in their classrooms about what these words meant to them in school. Each class developed lists of what they thought were the most important rights and responsibilities for them. The school council spent quite a lot of time discussing them all and coming up with 10 Rights and 10 Responsibilities for the whole school. They then delivered an assembly to present them to the rest of the school. We are committed to providing a caring, friendly and safe environment for all of our pupils so they can learn in a relaxed and secure atmosphere.
