A full programme of activity ideas is provided, which will assist in planning work with older people. It will also help the carer to think of new activities and expand the range of existing ones. The day is run by a qualified "Extend" tutor and gives "hands on" experience of organising and leading games, activities and exercise for older people, including discussion on what is required for provision of an activities session in the caring environment. The training days are aimed at those who care for older people in any capacity, to stimulate and interest the person being cared for. The National Care Standards Commission has specified a requirement for residential and nursing homes to provide a minimum half an hour per day of activities.

We are the nation's de facto custodian of Remembrance, ensuring that people remember those who have given their lives for the freedom we enjoy. We are responsible for the Two Minute Silence on Remembrance Sunday and 11th November. We also organise the annual Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, and assist with the march past at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday. The Legion is the major voice for serving and ex-Service people, running successful campaigns such as Honour the Covenant and Return to Rationing. Other issues such war pensions and compensation, assistance for bereaved families and housing issues are covered in our current "Time to do your bit" campaign. We will continue to press for change as long as the needs of veterans and their dependants remain unrecognised.
