Our Care Centres offer a stimulating and enjoyable day out for older people who would otherwise have to stop at home all day. Activities are organised within the centres with occasional trips out for those who want them. A small daily attendance charge is made for these services. The day centres are open all year round, Mondays to Fridays. Transport to and from the centres is provided as well as a healthy lunch and refreshments. Sometimes Adult Social Care at Manchester City Council or the Mental health Joint Commissioning Executive will contribute towards costs. Normally day care is available as the result of a referral by the Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust, by the Social Services Department, by a GP, or often a combination of these agencies.

Volunteers working in our befriending schemes provide friendship and support for older people who feel lonely or isolated. They visit people in their own homes, normally once a week for around an hour. Care is taken to match the interests of both volunteer and client as far as possible. As with all our schemes, references are taken up for all potential volunteers. The scheme is a free service, providing friendship to older people. The Co-ordinator will visit the older person to explain the scheme and make a note of any particular interests etc. Once a Befriending volunteer has been found, he or she will be introduced to the older person by their local Co-ordinator. The same volunteer will visit each week, so that in time a friendship may be built up.
