Around 230 students take advantage of a broad programme of sports based enrichment activities. We actively encourage learners to take part in sports activities provided by external organisations and around 10% are involved in such activities.
The curriculum is further enhanced by a two week enrichment fortnight when normal timetable is suspended to allow students to participate in a broad range of trips, visits and activities outside of the normal curriculum experience. An international ski trip will run in 2010.
There is a range of opportunities available to contribute to the learning and well being of others.
Year 11 prefects make a positive contribution to school life and year 8 and 9 pupils are involved in mentoring year 5 pupils at our partner primary schools. We have active school and college councils that look at ways of improving learning. All students are given specific responsibilities in their tutor time.
Students give help and guidance to new intake pupils during the transition from KS2 to KS3. Some of our senior pupils help out in peer reading projects. All year 8 students develop and carry out a fundraising activity in order to provide a Christmas meal for local senior citizens.
