UNITE is the UK’s leading developer and manager of student accommodation, providing modern, safe homes to over 40, 000 students in 24 university towns and cities across the UK. Since 1991, UNITE Group has pioneered and specialised in the expanding and economically resilient student accommodation sector. We provide homes to some 40, 000 students in the UK. We plan to double the net operating income from our UK student portfolio by 2012 by driving strong rental growth and an active development programme. It’s simple but unique: we develop, manage and co-invest in student accommodation. First, our acquisitions teams find the right sites. We then build properties tailored to students’ needs, using components including bedrooms and bathrooms manufactured at our own modular production facility. This allows us to minimise waste and reduce build times, whilst ensuring the highest level of quality control and reduced snagging. As our new properties start to take shape, we market them directly to students – who can view and book accommodation online. Once they are fully booked (we call this ‘stabilised’), most are offered to the UNITE UK Student Accommodation Fund, which owns student accommodation and in which we have a stake. UNITE Group continues the full management and operational responsibility for all properties in the Fund and is paid fees for its service in return. This Fund – the largest of its kind in Europe – generates fresh capital for our ongoing development.
