THOMAS SMITH'S TRUGS

Short profile:

Sussex Trugs from the original makers of the famous Royal Sussex Traditional and South Down Modern gardening Trug baskets. Our founder, Thomas Smith, first made the famous Sussex Trug in Herstmonceux, East Sussex, England, in 1829, using locally grown Sweet Chestnut & Cricket Bat Willow, and made them famous by selling some to Queen Victoria at The Great Exhibition in Hyde Park, London, in 1829. Peter, Angela & Robin Tuppen started making the South Down Modern Trugs in 1983, taking on an idea from Peter's father-in-law, Dudldey Hide who, with his brother laurence, invented the plywood Trug. Robin & Sue Tuppen now run the conjoined companies and sell both type of Trug from their retail shop, online store and dealers throughout the World. No order is too small and no distance too great!
