STAPLETON’S (TYRE SERVICES) LTD

It was in 1937 that Sidney Stapleton joined the growing number of businessmen starting as tyre specialists. The original premises, in Watford Hertfordshire, was a flat fronted shop in a parade of other shops. Unlike the other tyre suppliers of the time however was a passageway at the side of the shop, which enabled vehicles to have their tyres changed off the road.

It may be said that in those days it was not uncommon for customers to have wheels changed in the street outside the tyre depots! The growth of the fledgling motor industry was followed by the company expanding into specialist tyre retailing in the 1950’s and 60’s. By the end of the 1970’s a new head office was built with multiple fitting bays and large warehousing facilities standing on an impressive three quarters of an acre site, a stones throw away from the building where everything started.

Since then the company has continued from strength to strength and Stapleton’s is now the market leader distributing passenger car tyres to the specialist tyre retail trade, the car dealership sector and the consumer retail market via 9 national distribution centres and over 100 retail outlets under the STS Tyre Pros and STS Tyre & Exhaust brands.
