We present a series of personal tributes to the unique crafts and skills of Blackpool’s famous transport system, based since 1922 at Rigby Road. Under the penmanship of John Woodman, born in Blackpool, and recording local scenes from his school days in the early 1960’s – the series is being produced with collaboration of official sources, as well as privately owned and unpublished material. The volumes are profusely illustrated.
Enhancing ‘Tribute to Rigby Road’ volumes are many superlative full colour scale renderings of Blackpool buses and trams – produced by Ian Stewart. Ian is famous for his vehicle illustrations for the landmark book – ‘The Glasgow Tramcar’.
Copies of ‘Tribute to Rigby Road Works’ are available through individual subscription and by arrangement with select stockists in the UK. The volumes are limited edition and are essential reading for everyone with transport and urban heritage interests; as well as those with a strong affection for Blackpool’s colourful history.
We welcome anecdotal contributions from former employees and companies associating with Blackpool’s transport system.
