With my experience in this area of the law for thirty years, I never forget the paramount importance of understanding a client’s needs or what the Client is trying to achieve. The law is simply a means to an end. With some clients I have become closely involved in their business and this enables me to give very focused and practical advice.

Clients are or have been in a wide range of industries, wine merchants, caterers, publicans. publishing management consultancy, financial services, retailing, advertising agencies, manufacturing industries. Whenever possible, I will quote a fixed fee for work, rather than simply quoting a meaningless hourly rate with no estimate of the likely time involved. For compromise agreements I always ensure that the employer meets all my fees. Wherever possible I communicate with clients by email and telephone rather than the client incurring the expense and time of personal meetings. Evening and weekend work at usual charging rates, a feature. Advice is always recorded in writing by means of letter, email or contact report My employment workload is divided about 50/50 between contentious and potentially contentious work and contract work. The contract work involves all aspects of employment work. Employment tribunal cases I handle are a broad mix and cover unfair dismissals, discrimination claims, and redundancy.
