Plas Meddyg Surgery is a long established group practice. The premises were extended and refurbished in 1997 greatly improving the facilities available to our patients, including a disabled toilet and suitable access for disabled patients. We have recently completed an extension adding three more clinical rooms. We are a training practice and frequently have a registrar working with us for a year.
We also train F2 doctors, these are fully qualified doctors in their second year after qualifying and gaining experience in General Practice before deciding on their area of specialisation. The practice has a full complement of practice nurses, Health Care Assistant, district nurses, health visitor, midwives, reception and clerical staff. Our two Practice Nurses.
Breda Goss (RGN) and Susan Grace (RGN) run a variety of health promotion clinics, including well person screening, heart disease prevention screening, travel immunisations, smoking cessation and weight reduction clinics.
We run a wide range of specialist clinics and services run by the practice doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. Coronary Heart Clinic is held on the first Monday of every month. It is for patients who have a history of heart disease. It is an opportunity to check blood pressure, arrange blood tests if indicated and discuss lifestyle. Spirometry Clinic is held on the third Monday of every month. This clinic helps identify diagnose the cause of breathing problems and identify the most appropriate course of treatment.
Patients will be offered an appointment, if appropriate, by the doctor or nurse. Counselling is run by trained counsellors. If you would benefit from counselling, please make an appointment to see a doctor to discuss your problem first. We offer this service to both men and women who would like a general check up, cholesterol testing if necessary, blood pressure and urine check and advice on lifestyle. We can also offer advice on problems related to women's health, eg menopause, contraception and pre-conception.
For men, information about a testicular examination can be provided. Please make an appointment with a nurse. All forms of family planning are offered by the doctors and nurses. Dr Sykes and Dr Schmalhorst fit IUCDs (coils). Emergency contraception is available - you need to be seen within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.
