Short profile:
We are a friendly Physiotherapy Practice with a focus on posture, movement correction and manual therapy. Our vision is to deliver cost effective, high quality advice, education and treatment for people who suffer musculo-skeletal problems. We want to empower our clients to be able to use current concepts in pain, movement dysfunction and musculo-skeletal sciences to recognise the causes of potential and actual injury, and, help speed them through their recovery process. We actively involve our clients in their own treatment. We respect the individual's personal needs and offer as much or as little support as they require.
Detailed description:
Physiotherapy is the physical treatment of the body, usually by hands-on techniques (manual therapy), to aid the return to health of a body suffering the effects of injury. Injury can be traumatic or slow onset and doesn¹t have to be painful - though that's when most people identify their problems. Physiotherapy helps improve the link between the brain and the body and uses motivational techniques, education and exercise to fulfill its aims. Often referred to as an art as well as a science, physiotherapy is an inclusive treatment model that often assimilates other treatment regimes that may initially be thought to be alternative. An example of this is acupuncture which in the 1970s and 1980s was thought to be way out, but as research has proven its worth, physiotherapy has helped bring it into the western medical model. Good physiotherapy practice is based on proven research and is continually being developed under sound scientific principles. Core stability is the training of the abdominal muscles to support the spine and is fundamental to the Pilates concept, Yoga, and current physiotherapy treatment of low back pain. The abdominal muscles comprise the sit up muscle - rectus abdominus - at the front, and the 3 muscles that wrap around the sides, the internal and external obliques and the transversus abdominus. Recent research from Queensland, suggests that the deepest layer of these, the transversus abdominus, is one of the most important providers of support to the low back. The dynamic relationship between the control of the low back area by this stability muscle, and other muscles that move the limbs is a fundamental part of the core stability concept. Core stability is important as it provides a protective muscular corset, reducing excessive movement of the easily damaged joints, discs and neural structures. It helps prevent low back pain caused by the placement of the spine into extreme positions.
