Oshwal Association of the U.K (OAUK) is a registered charity and the largest Jain organisation in the United Kingdom. The foundations for the Association were laid in 1968 by far sighted individuals, who were among the first Halari Visa Oshwals to settle in the U.K. They foresaw the need to create an organisation that would not only endeavour to mirror the achievements of our great sister Oshwal organisations in India and Kenya but which would also have its own unique identity keeping in step with the intellectual, cultural and religious development of the growing Halari Visa Oshwal Community in the United Kingdom. The population of the Oshwal community in the UK is now estimated to be in excess of 25, 000 The Association is of immense character, community spirit and dedication which has enabled it to achieve much over the years. Today, OAUK is a strong and thriving community that is an important tile in the cultural mosaic of the U.K and is held in very high esteem by other UK Indian communities.
Members of the Executive Committee, who are the Charity Trustees for the purpose of the Charities Act 1993, conduct the operations of the Association. The Association comprises of nine geographically defined branches, referred to as Areas. The Areas are: East Area | Leicester Area | Luton Area | Northamptonshire Area | North Area | North East Area | North West Area | South Area | West Area. These Areas report to and are responsible to the Executive Committee.
Each Area has their own committee who organise various activities for the benefits of OAUK members. The activities of the Association include running of Gujarati Schools to facilitate the learning of our mother tongue Gujarati, Youth clubs, Ladies clubs, various sporting activities, organising religious & cultural programmes, holding seminars, lectures and workshops etc. The Association currently has two centres - Oshwal Centre, Potters Bar, Hertfordshire and Oshwal Mahajanwadi, South London.
