The children attending Orchard Junior have a vast array of lunch time and after school activities to choose from. These include: football, netball, tag-rugby, cross-country running, athletics, cricket, rounders, multi-sports, chess club, first aid, maths club, e-pals club, Warhammer and card games club, sketch club, journalism group and drama club. In addition pupils with musical ability are able to join the choir and orchestra. Instrumental lessons are taught by visiting peripatetic teachers and school staff - these include: keyboard, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, ukelele, guitar and recorder.
The school makes a huge effort to enrich the curriculum by inviting theatre groups, puppeteers, storytellers, dancers and other performers to the school. Historical workshops, led by school staff or visiting professionals, are also arranged to help bring topics to life.
School trips are planned for each year group throughout the year. These include visits to: Denny Wood, Marwell Zoo, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Boldrewood. Year 5 and 6 pupils have the opportunity to go on residential visits to Osmington Bay Activity Centre and Castleton, Derbyshire.
