North Walsham Town Football Club
Description North Walsham Town Football Club
The club was formed in 1879 after a meeting at the old Angel Hotel in the town, hence the nickname ‘The Angels’
The club is one of the oldest in Norfolk and played successfully, in the old Norfolk and Suffolk League, which in those days included the likes of Fakenham, Dereham and Diss, all of whom now ply their trade in the Ridgeons League.
The Angels joined the newly formed Anglian Combination. Fortunes wavered and by the mid eighties the club were playing in Division 4. A mini revival ensued in the late eighties but was short lived.
In 1964, following a meeting at the Scole Inn, the old Eastern Counties League, now Ridgeons, was rebranded and a number pf Norfolk and Suffolk League clubs joined the league and the Anglian Combination was formed from the remainder of the Norfolk and Suffolk clubs and the East Anglian League.
In 1988, the club moved from the Millfield site to Greens Road.
The early nineties saw an upsurge in the clubs fortunes. The NNDC could finally off load Greens Road onto the shoulders of willing volunteers from the football club in the form of a long term lease.
Over the years the club has continued to expand and supports four mens teams, one Under 18, six youth teams and hosts numerous competitions and finals.
