Norden High School & Sports College - a mixed 11-16, comprehensive, specialist sports college situated in the heart of Rishton serving the communities around it which include Great Harwood, Altham and Clayton-le-Moors.
This is an exciting time for all associated with Norden. In 2004 the school gained recognition as a Centre of Excellence for Sport, and became the first specialist sports college in the area. We have used this specialism as a springboard for developing contacts with the community and in helping to raise standards.
The growing popularity and success of Norden has been built upon a clear partnership between parents, students and the school. This has enabled us to raise achievement and establish a disciplined environment, combining friendliness with formality.
We are committed to providing a curriculum that is both meaningful and challenging. Students will be given all the support they need in order to achieve their full potential, regardless of ability.
Detailed description:
Students have access to a wide variety of extra-curricular activities.
Sporting activities are particularly strong, both competitive and non-competitive. Students have the opportunity to take part in team games against other schools and in inter-form matches.
A wide variety of activity days is offered to the students. These include a safety day for Year 7, enterprise days for Year 9 and work-related activities for students in Key Stage 4.
Individual faculties offer activities for the students. These include music tuition, mathematics challenge and revision classes in many areas.
Breakfast and lunchtime clubs are available for students. A homework club is run after school in the Learning Resource Centre.
The students are given the opportunity to take part in a number of educational visits, from one day trips to residential visits at home and overseas. There are also rewards trips for students who achieve within school.
