Short profile:
Opticians and theatre staff have a limited local knowledge of relative abilities of surgeons, who themselves do not necessarily know about the abilities of other surgeons, and I would say the only people who really know are the surgical instrument and equipment representatives who visit operating theatres regularly in a wide area.
Detailed description:
Posterior capsular opacification affects about 1 in 4 people within 5 years of having cataract or clear lens surgery. The cloudiness may develop gradually over several months or years. This is sometimes called after cataract or secondary membrane. In some people, it can become very dense and cause as much or more vision loss as the original cataract. Therefore if one of the major surgical companies (such as AMO [go to link below] find a doctor) recommends a particular surgeon as one of the physicians for the use of their lens inplants or other equipment that gives you a good chance of getting one of the better surgeons to look after you.
