Short profile:

We target our funded schemes, knowledge and advice to farmers and land managers throughout the country, whilst giving guidance and leadership to our partners, farming community and government. Why are we doing this? To make sure land is well managed and keeps its traditional character. To protect England's historic features and natural resources.

To look after wildlife, species and their habitats. To ensure traditional livestock and crops are conserved for the future.

To provide opportunities for you to visit and learn about the countryside.

Detailed description:

We provide funding for farmers and other land managers in England to reward them for managing the land in ways that improve the environment. Environmental Stewardship is an agri-environment scheme that provides funding to farmers and other land managers in England to deliver effective environmental management on your land. The Energy Crops Scheme offers grants to farmers in England for establishing miscanthus and short rotation coppice for their own energy use or to supply power stations. Natural England is an Executive Non-departmental Public Body responsible to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Our purpose is to protect and improve England’s natural environment and encourage people to enjoy and get involved in their surroundings.
