This notice is a brief guide to the bilingual service provided by the Department to the public in Wales. It is intended for use by the trading, travelling and general public.
Detailed description:
Members of the trading, travelling or general public, who correspond with the Department, will be able and welcome to do so in Welsh as in English.
All correspondence received by the Department in Welsh will receive a signed reply in Welsh, if a reply is appropriate. We will ensure that the same timescale for reply will apply to both Welsh and English correspondence.
Following face-to-face interviews or telephone conversations in Welsh, any future correspondence with you will be through the medium of Welsh, unless you note otherwise.
When there is a need to initiate correspondence we will ensure that it will be in the medium chosen by you.
Any circulars or mailshots issued by the Department and directed to our customers and/or members of the public in Wales will be bilingual.
H M Customs and Excise is fully committed to fulfilling its obligations under the Welsh Language Act 1993. The overall aim is to respond positively to those people wanting to conduct their business with the Department in Welsh and to provide them with the same standard of service as they have come to expect in English.
