METHODIST HOMES FOR THE AGED

Handsworth opened in October 1971. Owing to the relatively small size of the area, and unusually for MHA at that time, the Home was built as a four-storey building that nowadays is home to 41 residents. During its history, Handsworth has had two extensions added. Nowadays, it is becoming an increasingly popular proposition for local residents. Not only does it have a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, remarks one resident; in line with MHA’s commitment to supporting personal independence, it is also a place in which residents are involved in decision-making.

Methodist Homes (MHA) is a charity providing care homes, accommodation and support services for older people throughout Britain. MHA is also the term used for the three charitable organisations: Methodist Homes; Methodist Homes Housing Association; and MHA Auchlochan. MHA now delivers a range of high quality services to over 13, 500 individuals. We serve approximately: 3, 500 older people in residential, nursing and special dementia care homes; 10, 000 older people in independent living through a combination of apartments, 24-hour support, personalised care and live at home services in the community; Our services are delivered by 5, 500 dedicated staff and enhanced by the commitment of 4, 000 volunteers. Together they make a real difference to the lives of the older people we serve.
