Short profile:
Marriage Care is a charity operating across England and Wales, from 53 Centres, with 80 counselling locations. Our volunteers are mainly though not exclusively drawn from within the Catholic community.
We were established in 1946 in response to the pressure on family relationships following the Second World War. The world has changed dramatically in the past 60 years, but the need for support, education and help in the relationship field remains as great as ever.
We provide marriage preparation, relationship counselling, relationship education, a telephone helpline. We also offer general support and advice to those who want to marry or enter long-term relationships.
Detailed description:
By volunteering to work in one of the above areas; or by offering administrative or management support to one of our Centres; or by making a financial donation towards our work.
Marriage Care views marriage preparation as an investment in the future and the stability of families. It is a way of helping couples to become aware of their relationship, by exploring issues with each other, in a safe and confidential environment. We believe that increasing couple's mutual understanding of their relationship, with all its richness and complexity, improves their chances of a lasting and satisfying life with each other. Parenting is one of the most rewarding and difficult experiences for adults and yet we know that many are unprepared for the arrival of a child. The strain on a couple can be very great, sometimes leaving them upset and confused. We have put together a number of resources that you can download to help you maintain or enhance the quality of your relationship. Marriage Care offers marriage preparation in co-operation with local Churches and other who are helping couples prepare for Wedding, the day, and Marriage, the life. We aim: to increase a couple's understanding of relationships in general, and their own in particular. to encourage couples to become aware of the things that they bring to their marriage relationship, and the way in which relationships work. to increase the understanding of what helps and what hinders to explore how relationships change and develop. to explore and build the knowledge and skills required to maintain and sustain a successful relationship. to empower couples to continue to explore, learn about and understand their own unique relationship.
