MANCHESTER & LANCASHIRE FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY

Updated more than 6 months ago

Short profile:

We have supported family history research in Greater Manchester since 1964. We welcome members from all parts of the UK and particularly those from overseas researching ancestors in the Manchester area. THE SOCIETY incorporates four branches representing specialist interests. Each Branch organises its own programme of monthly meetings over and above those of the parent Society and undertakes locally-based or topic-based projects. Membership of Manchester & Lancashire FHS includes membership of any or all of the Branches free of charge.

Detailed description:

ON JOINING THE SOCIETY, you will receive a Factpack which includes our handbook to introduce you to family history sources in general, and sources for research in the Manchester & Lancashire area in particular. Assistance and advice on how to begin tracing your ancestors, or on any problem encountered is offered through the pages of the Society's Journal, at our Resource Centre or via our thriving e-mail group. There are regular topic-based courses courses for beginners.

The Society's Resource Centre is located on the 3rd floor of Clayton House, an attractive Edwardian building on Piccadilly, in central Manchester. The location is conveniently placed for public transport midway between the city's Piccadilly and Victoria rail stations and adjacent to the Piccadilly bus station and Metrolink (tram) station.

There is also a taxi rank close by. The city's principal record repositories are all within a 15 minute walk.
