Lloydspharmacy aims to demonstrate that community pharmacies are ideally placed to offer public health services and support the Department of Health’s national vascular programme - NHS Health Check. A perfect example of this is our NHS Health Check programme, which helps to identify individuals with an increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, allowing us to encourage early preventative treatment and suggest positive lifestyle changes. The health check also includes diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol tests. This innovative new service fulfils a number of objectives, including meeting local needs, reducing health inequalities and supporting delivery on this key government priority. Our clearly defined referral criteria are developed in agreement with local clinical leads and can be based around: Cardiovascular risk assessment score, Blood pressure, Total cholesterol, TC/HDL ratio, Blood glucose. Other risk factors are also considered such as age, gender, ethnicity, BMI, waist circumference, smoking patterns, alcohol intake and exercise regimes.
